The Lord-Lieutenant was pleased to visit Kent Army Cadet Force during Exercise KENT ARMY CADET 2026, where more than 300 cadets from across the county were taking part in their annual camp at Lydd Military Training Camp.
During the visit, Lady Colgrain was delighted to see first-hand the outstanding work of the Cadet Force Adult Volunteers whose dedication, leadership and commitment make such opportunities possible for young people across Kent. From adventurous training and military skills to personal development activities, the camp showcased the confidence, resilience and teamwork that the cadet experience helps to foster.
The visit provided a valuable opportunity to recognise the exceptional contribution of volunteers who give their time in support of young people and their local communities.
The Lieutenancy is also pleased to note the strong and enduring links with Kent Army Cadet Force through the recent appointment of the Vice Lord-Lieutenant, Rt Hon Sir Hugh Robertson, as Honorary Colonel of Kent ACF. Sir Hugh succeeded Brigadier Peter Gilbert in June and will serve a three-year term. A former officer in The Life Guards, Sir Hugh saw active service in Northern Ireland, the First Gulf War, Cyprus and Bosnia, and has continued a distinguished record of public service, including duties as a Gentleman at Arms at the funeral of Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III.
