DOUBLE TOP – LORD-LIEUTENANT HAILS TWO KENT WINNERS OF THE QUEEN’S AWARD FOR ENTERPRISE

Her Majesty The Queen has honoured two enterprising Kent businesses.

Nim’s Fruit Crisps, based at Trinity Trading Estate, Sittingbourne, and Priority Freight Holdings, of Menzies Road, Dover, are among a select group of UK businesses to win The Queen’s Award for Enterprise 2020.

Nim’s is one of just 14 businesses in the South East to win The Queen’s Award in the Innovation category. It is the UK’s only manufacturer of air dried fruit crisps. Entrepreneur Nimisha Raja founded the business to create a healthy snack for children by combining fruit and the crunchiness of crisps. They are the only crisps recognised by Public Health England as one of the recommended “five a day.”

The company uses locally grown fruit where possible and buys fruit that is not of a standard to be sold as produce, giving growers an alternative sales outlet. Nim’s employs an 11-strong team.

Priority Freight Holdings is among 21 South East winners of The Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the International Trade category.

The freight and logistics business has enjoyed phenomenal overseas sales growth for the past six years, rising from £8 million to £56.6 million, a 601% increase.  Founded in 1996, it specialises in the automotive and aerospace industries, operating across the supply chain from the shipping of small components or fragile prototype parts to arranging tailored solutions to support large volume and weight shipments. Overseas sales now account for 70.7% of total sales. The company services businesses across Europe and also operates in China. Its top five markets are Sweden, Germany, Belgium, Poland and Spain.

The Lady Colgrain, who took up the post of Lord-Lieutenant of Kent on the day the winners were announced, met virtually with the winners as her first engagement in office, to congratulate them on their huge achievement.  Lady Colgrain was delighted to meet with both businesses as they received their extremely well deserved awards and is looking forward to meeting them in person when she can officially present them with their Award on behalf of Her Majesty The Queen.
