The Lord-Lieutenant was delighted to visit Mr Christopher Deering and present him with his MBE, recognising more than fifty years of exceptional voluntary service to disabled people and the wider community. Since 1967, Mr Deering has given his time as a volunteer lifeguard, supporting accessible swimming for disabled people and their families. Over five decades, he has created a safe, welcoming space for hundreds of swimmers and has contributed more than 5,000 hours of voluntary service. A skilled Royal Life Saving Society trainer and assessor, he has also trained generations of lifeguards and supported disabled swimmers to achieve national qualifications, helping many gain confidence, independence, and employment. The Lord-Lieutenant warmly congratulates Mr Deering on this well-deserved honour and thanks him for his kindness, dedication, and remarkable service to the community.
