Deputy Lieutenant Colonel Jane Carey-Harris was pleased to represent the Lord-Lieutenant at the Annual General Meeting of the East Kent Federation of Women’s Institutes held at Kent College. The event brought together 250 members representing 72 Women’s Institutes from across East Kent.
The programme included Federation business, followed by an address from guest speaker Keji Moses, the Lord Mayor of Canterbury who spoke about her life and the establishment of Mayan’s Legacy, her charity supporting vulnerable families.

During the meeting Colonel Jane made a number of presentations, including a 100 year Anniversary Certificate and the Joan Boucher Award for Writing. She also gave a short address outlining the history of the Lieutenancy, her life as a nurse and Army Reserves Officer and her role as a Deputy Lieutenant.

Members also heard about the Federation’s strong tradition of fundraising and the charities supported by the WI. The charity for 2025/26 is the Kent Neuro Therapy Centre in Canterbury, with KSS Air Ambulance selected for the forthcoming year. The meeting concluded with inspiring contributions from WI members who shared examples of fundraising activities within their branches.
Our sincere thanks to the East Kent Federation of Women’s Institutes for their warm welcome and for the valuable work carried out by members across the community.
