Deputy Lieutenant Colonel Jane Carey-Harris TD DL VR was delighted to represent the Lord-Lieutenant at the opening of Maya’s Boutique Upcycling Academy in the heart of Canterbury.

The new academy is a wonderful example of how local initiatives can bring people together while addressing important social and environmental challenges. Through skills development, work experience opportunities, community engagement and sustainable practices, the project aims to empower individuals and create positive opportunities for people of all ages.

Particularly inspiring is the support being provided to young people with additional needs, alongside efforts to reduce isolation and encourage a more sustainable approach to everyday living. By transforming pre-loved items and sharing valuable skills, Maya’s Boutique is helping to build confidence, foster connections and strengthen the local community.

Our warmest congratulations to Maya and everyone involved in establishing this exciting new venture and wishes Maya’s Boutique every success as it becomes a valued part of community life in Canterbury.
