Deputy Lieutenant Susie Warran-Smith was delighted to represent the Lord-Lieutenant at the Annual Dashain Festival held at Leas Cliff Hall on 25 October.
Organised by the Folkestone Nepalese Community, the event brought together Gurkha veterans, serving personnel, their families and members of the wider community to celebrate Dashain, the major harvest and cultural festival observed by Nepalese communities around the world.
The occasion also provided an opportunity to reflect on the recent disaster on the Tibet–Nepal border, with thoughts and prayers shared for all those affected.
Susie was pleased to join this special celebration of community, friendship, culture and service. During the event, guests enjoyed a varied cultural programme, including a vibrant performance by Limbu dancers from Eastern Nepal, showcasing traditional Nepalese music and dance.
Our sincere thanks to the Folkestone Nepalese Community for its kind invitation and warm hospitality, and our congratulations to everyone involved in delivering such a successful celebration of Nepalese heritage and the enduring contribution of the Gurkha community in Kent.
