The Lord-Lieutenant was delighted to present Kent Active Retirement Association with The King’s Award for Voluntary Service at a special ceremony held on 15 May 2026.

Often described as the ‘MBE for voluntary groups’, this prestigious award recognises the outstanding contribution made by Kent ARA over more than 40 years in tackling loneliness and social isolation among those aged 55 and over. Entirely volunteer-led, the organisation now supports around 8,500 members through a network of 74 local clubs across the county, offering a wide range of activities that foster friendship, well-being and a strong sense of community.

Presenting the award on behalf of His Majesty The King, the Lord-Lieutenant paid tribute to the remarkable dedication, compassion and community spirit shown by Kent ARA’s volunteers, whose efforts continue to make a profound difference to the lives of so many across Kent.

The Lord-Lieutenant was pleased to be supported by Deputy Lieutenant Lord Colgrain and her Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadet, Cadet Sergeant Rafael Rist from Maidstone Grammar School CCF, at this special occasion.

Our warmest congratulations to everyone involved in Kent Active Retirement Association on this richly deserved honour.
