The Lord-Lieutenant was honoured to attend the Battle of Britain Memorial Day Service at the National Memorial to The Few at Capel-le-Ferne on 12 July, joining distinguished guests, veterans, serving personnel, cadets and members of the public in remembrance of the courage and sacrifice of those who defended our skies during the Battle of Britain.

Among those in attendance were Air Chief Marshal Sir Harv Smyth, Chief of the Air Staff, together with senior representatives from allied air forces, Air and Defence Attachés, relatives of The Few, and members of the RAF family. The service provided a poignant opportunity to reflect on the bravery, resilience and service of a generation whose legacy continues to inspire.

The Lord-Lieutenant was particularly pleased to be accompanied by her Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadet, Cadet Warrant Officer Joshua Baldock of 354 Dover Squadron RAF Air Cadets, and extends her sincere thanks for his excellent support throughout the day.

As Kent’s coastline stands as a lasting reminder of the events of 1940, the annual service remains a powerful tribute to those whose courage and sacrifice helped secure our freedom. The Lieutenancy offers its thanks to all those involved in organising and supporting this important commemoration, ensuring that the legacy of The Few continues to be remembered by future generations.
