Our thanks go to all those at Sevenoaks District Council for organising the Commonwealth Day flag raising ceremony held on Monday 9 March in Sevenoaks, which brought together representatives from the local community to mark this important annual occasion. Commonwealth Day is always commemorated on the second Monday in March, with events taking place across the UK and throughout the Commonwealth.

Deputy Lieutenant, The Lord Colgrain, was delighted to attend the ceremony and join the District Council’s Vice-Chair, Cllr Margot McArthur, as they marked the day together. Each year the flag is flown across Kent and the country to mark this occasion, symbolising the shared values and unity of the 56 member nations.

Commonwealth Day is observed throughout the Commonwealth and is complemented by a multi‑faith service at Westminster Abbey celebrating cooperation, diversity and mutual support. This year’s theme, “Unlocking opportunities together for a prosperous Commonwealth,” highlights the importance of working collectively to address challenges and create lasting opportunities for people across Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and Americas, the Pacific and Europe.
