Deputy Lieutenant, Lady Newey, was delighted to attend the History Day at St John’s Catholic Comprehensive School in Gravesend. History Day gives all the Year 7 students the opportunity to focus on commemoration and remembrance by producing art, poetry and prose during the day. Local Historian, Christoph Bull attended and spoke to the pupils in their assembly and looked at the work they were producing. Lady Newey attended the afternoon assembly where veterans from World War II, Mervyn Kersh and Gilbert Clarke, visited the school and spoke to the children and guests about their experiences. Lady Newey then laid a wreath in the school gardens to remember all those who have connections with the school. Lady Newey had a fantastic time and thoroughly enjoyed meeting with the veterans, the teachers and the children.
