The Vice Lord-Lieutenant, Sir Hugh Robertson, was delighted to visit The King’s School, Canterbury, to present the Combined Cadet Force Association President’s Awards to Cadet Company Sergeant Major Josie Manney and Cadet Staff Sergeant Lucy Thornhill.

The awards, the highest recognition for community service available to CCF cadets, were presented in acknowledgement of the exceptional dedication both cadets have shown through their voluntary service supporting the daily Ringing of the Bell Ceremony at Canterbury Cathedral.

Now marking its centenary year, the ceremony provides a poignant act of remembrance for those affected by armed conflict. Through their commitment, professionalism and leadership, Josie and Lucy have helped ensure this important tradition continues for the many visitors, worshippers and pilgrims who witness it each day.

During the visit, the Vice Lord-Lieutenant also presented Lord-Lieutenant’s Certificates for Meritorious Service to Lieutenant Nikki Ridley and Lieutenant Richard Singfield in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the cadet movement.

Our warmest congratulations to all four recipients on these well-deserved awards and sincere thanks for the service, dedication and example they provide to young people and the wider community across Kent.
