The Lord-Lieutenant was delighted to present Chatham Town Football Club with their extremely well-deserved Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.

Chatham Town Football Club is making a real difference to the community in Chatham. The sheer number of volunteers is exceptional and the way in which they have been able to reach out to all areas of the community under the banner of sport is to be celebrated. The wide-ranging community sports programmes have proved to have a major effect on improving general health, reducing loneliness and social isolation, improving mental health and creating a cohesive local community. The wide range of skilled volunteers that the club has been able to attract is a significant strength. Volunteers with mental health and counselling skills have proved exceptionally valuable in assisting with a number of community problems.

The club’s work truly extends way beyond what one might normally expect from a football club. It is absolutely clear that the framework that the club provides to their volunteers enables them to make an enormous difference to the lives of so many people.

Congratulations to Chatham Town Football Club and thank you for all you do in the community.
