Deputy Lieutenant Clive Stevens was pleased to represent the Lord-Lieutenant at the Merchant Navy Day Ceremonial Colours, Service and Sunset Ceremony, hosted by Margate Sea Cadets and the Margate Branch of the Royal British Legion.
The ceremony paid tribute to the dedication and sacrifice of Merchant Navy personnel, with Sea Cadets and Royal Marines Cadets raising both the Blue SCC Ensign and the Red Ensign in honour of the Merchant Navy.
A service led by Father Denis Hartley provided an opportunity to reflect on the vital contribution Merchant Seafarers have made to the nation, both in times of conflict and in peace, recognising their enduring role in supporting the country and its communities.
The event was a fitting tribute to those who have served in the Merchant Navy and highlighted the importance of preserving its traditions and heritage for future generations.
