Deputy Lieutenant Sir George Jessel was delighted to represent the Lord-Lieutenant at Kent County Council as Members voted to award the Freedom of the County of Kent to the Brigade of Gurkhas.
This honour is a fitting recognition of more than 200 years of loyal and distinguished service to the United Kingdom, and of the deep and enduring connection between the Gurkhas and the people of Kent.
With key Gurkha units based at Shorncliffe and Maidstone, the Brigade and their families play an important role in communities across the county, making a significant contribution to Kent’s military heritage and community life.
The occasion marked an important milestone in recognising the longstanding relationship between Kent and the Brigade of Gurkhas, whose service, dedication and professionalism continue to be widely admired.
