Deputy Lieutenant Simon Dean was pleased to represent the Lord-Lieutenant at the official opening of the Historical Research Group of Sittingbourne’s new Heritage Annex in Rainham.

Despite the warm bank holiday weekend, the Annex welcomed a steady stream of visitors, many of whom shared their own research and showed great interest in the impressive displays and exhibits on show.

Given his longstanding connection to Sittingbourne, including a family link to First World War Victoria Cross recipient Donald Dean VC, Simon was a particularly fitting representative for the occasion. During his visit, he spent time exploring the extensive collections held by the group including their library, maps, photographs, archives and archaeological materials.

His interest in the work of the Historical Research Group, together with his encouraging and inspiring words, was greatly appreciated by all involved.

Our warmest congratulations to everyone connected with the Heritage Annex and wish them every success as they continue their important work preserving and sharing local history.
