One of our Deputy Lieutenants, The Dean of Rochester, The Very Reverend Dr Philip Hesketh DL, has shared with us this extremely moving tribute to those in Medway and Kent who have died with Covid-19.  Dean Philip created a cross of light in the Nave of Rochester Cathedral out of candles, one for each life lost in the past three months.

He has also written this prayer for the people of Kent and Medway, to provide comfort at this difficult time.  We thank the Dean and all at Rochester Cathedral for this beautiful tribute and prayer.  Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of those whose lives have been lost during the pandemic.

Prayer for Medway and Kent in a time of Loss and Adversity

If I say, by chance the darkness shall cover me; then shall my night be turned to day.
 Ps 139 v10

Loving God, whose light shines perpetually in the darkness,
We hold before you each precious life that has been extinguished in Medway and Kent during this time of pandemic.
We remember those who watch, wait and weep this night
And whose hearts are broken;
Send them the comfort of your Holy Spirit.
And may those who have been taken from us
Forever shine in your presence and always in our hearts.
For Jesus Christ’s sake.
Amen.
