Deputy Lieutenant, Judith Armitt, had the pleasure of attending the University of Greenwich’s Medway Campus for the Kent Gifted and Talented Science and Technology Day.

This fun day is organised by MCS Projects Ltd and aims to inspire young people to continue their studies in STEM subjects and go on to related careers by engaging them in activities which they will find fun and interesting. Kent Schools are invited to send 12 Year 8s and 9s whom they judge to be more able in science and technology subjects and over the course of the day the young people engage in three of four STEM challenges in mixed school teams. The activities, which are led by a team of university students, are robotics, EFIT forensics [using the latest police software], electric vehicle building and medical diagnostics. This event forms part of a national competition and the winning team for each activity are presented with awards as is the overall winning team.

Judith had a fantastic time meeting with all the students and learning more about their aspirations and the activities they had undertaken during the day. She was delighted to present the Awards at the end of the day including the overall winners from Valley Park School and Westlands School. Well done to all the winners and thank you to MCS Projects for such an inspiring day for Kent’s young people.
